New page

Originally Posted : Tue Apr 07 19:33:45 2009
Posted by : Razan
Title : changes to combat - slightly

I made what could ammount to a pretty major change or a pretty
minor one - depending on what it effects that I didn't think
about.

As you know, when attempting to perform an aggressive action
against a player there is a test made to see if you are allowed
to. That might be to see if their intimidate stops
your or also to test if you are aggro, maybe need to be now,
or if they are aggro to you.

The thing is, once you are in combat you can remain in combat
(in this room). What I did was change it so that every
round of combat we test if you can stay in combat - basially
doing that test every round. Why? Because of the next change:

CHANGE: The 'nopk' variable now has some new functionality.
It still will prevent you from starting combat with someone else, but now
it is also usable to stop yourself from attacking someone that you
did start attacking. Meaning, imagine you start combat with Bob
and then decide Bob is kicking your butt and you need to back out
of this. You have a quit timer, so you're not getting away that
easily. But the problem was that as Bob continues to fight back
he causd YOUR quit timer to be reset over and over again (after all,
you startd it - right?). Well now if you choose, you can set
nopk and this will stop your timer from being reset. BUT, in exchange
for that you will NOT fight back at all! Yes, this means they will
get entirely free hits against you. Think of it as if you are
putting up your hands defensively and trying to run awaywith
your tail between your legs.
br>Make sense?

No, this doens't change how intimidate works so don't freak out that
intimidate will be tested each round of combat once you break
through. Please mudmail and 'bug' things related to this. Don't
bother posting on the suggestion board about it.

Oh, if you have things like damage shields (necro shield, ooze
acid, etc) you will still be able to splash damage on someone
with nopk set. I think this is OK and yes, you get to do it
for "free" in the sense that it doesn't increase your PK timer
if you have nopk set and are running like a little girl.

This work is collaboration between Charon and I. Bug him if you
don't like it.

[[Category:Changes_Board]]
